I don't wanna be anything other than what I've been trying to be lately
All I have to do is think of me and I have peace of mind
I'm tired of looking around rooms wondering what I gotta do
Or who I'm supposed to be
I don't wanna be anything other than me
I'm surrounded by liars, everywhere I turn
I'm surrounded by impostors, everywhere I turn
I'm surrounded by identity crisis, everywhere I turn
Am I the only one who noticed? I can't be the only one who's learned
All I have to do is think of me and I have peace of mind
I'm tired of looking around rooms wondering what I gotta do
Or who I'm supposed to be
I don't wanna be anything other than me
I'm surrounded by liars, everywhere I turn
I'm surrounded by impostors, everywhere I turn
I'm surrounded by identity crisis, everywhere I turn
Am I the only one who noticed? I can't be the only one who's learned
As some celebrate 4th of July today - or not depending on where you live and your personal ideology - let us remember that we are all afforded certain opportunities in life. Whatever your religious belief or spiritual practice I don't think we were meant to be miserable. So if it's your thinking that needs to change, fix it. If it's other people in your life bringing you down or second-guessing your choices, put some distance between you and them either mentally or physically.
Without women the world would cease to exist. We deserve all of the freedom of movement and choices men have. Black women (as a collective group) need to remember we were queens, poets, authors, scientists, and explorers. Let's get to it!
P.S. BET released a statement apologizing for the rape primer performance presented by Lil Wayne, Drake and others. I wrote about the Vortex of Coonery here. Of course Viacom has also clamped down hard by pulling all the performances downloaded on sites like YouTube. They also made a feeble attempt at blurring out the 10 year olds gyrating on stage to daddy and his grown men friends singing about sexing women. Too little too late. They were inundated by outraged people and despite all their protestations to the contrary had to make this (symbolic? hollow?) gesture. So until the next time they offend...at least they were forced to do something. They need to apologize for the entire show but whatevs.
I don't know about you but I feel as if a few people realized they were in a burning house and got the heck up outta there!
