Rihanna Who? Chris Brown's Mommy Would Rather Cry For Her Son's Loss of Income Instead!

Now you KNOW I had to discuss the Chris Brown interview that aired last night. The fact Chris Brown and his momma Joyce Hawkins (along with his lawyer thrown in for good measure) appeared on Larry King spoke volumes. This is part of the "Don't Believe What Your Eyes Are Showing You" Tour. Or as Khadija, blog host of Muslim Bushido so aptly wrote about recently: The Mass Gaslighting of African American Women.

We are being pressured to have a pity party for a felon and:

• Ignore the fact this is a grown man over the age of 18.
• Ignore the fact he beat and threatened to kill a woman.
• Ignore the fact the police report states he was a serial abuser.

He claimed to "love" Rihanna. He talked about how difficult this "situation" is. Boo Hoo. He said he couldn't "remember" punching, kicking, biting a woman with one hand, seeing blood splatter the dashboard all while driving a car with the other hand. That's a skill set! Someone from his record label likely screamed at him how that's serial killer talk. So he tried to amend what he STATED VERY PLAINLY by claiming he "misspoke". Which is PR talk for Cover Your A**. See what had happened was/I meant to say.. Give me a break.

We don't remember things that have no meaning to us. So his beating a woman to a bloody pulp was so far down on his list of priorities he couldn't even recall that he'd done it. It had happened so many times before that he couldn't recall that one particular act of violation. He had dance routines he could think of first but using his fist to communicate his inadequacies..nope!

I was waiting for a litany of excuses. I was waiting for the "but what about blah blah who did blah blah". The same variation of "my baby isn't a criminal". Mind you this "baby" is a grown man! That doesn't stop these women from ignoring the crimes their sons have committed and declaring them "victims". Victims of what I don't know. Being held responsible is a foreign concept to some people no matter what the price.

Just ask Nathan Walker's mommy. Just ask William Balfour's. Just ask the one who's going to cry for "Jesus" and say you need to "forgive" the next miscreant that shoots at, rapes or steals from you or your child. Ok I'll bite: what about OJ, R Kelly, Miles Davis...and let me tell you the list could go on and on.....and on and on. This history of abuse from black men against black women has always been there to view for those who decided to look and SEE it! It's time to take a stand against this blanket knee-jerk criminal amnesty being given to men who have no REGRETS, haven't CHANGED one iota and have no plans for making amends.

CA vs. Chris Brown Proceeds. Will A Prison Number Follow?

Despite all of the delay attempts by his defense team, the case against singer Chris Brown has continued with a preliminary hearing scheduled for later today in Los Angeles. Rihanna had to be subpeonaed but she will testify about the events that lead to her attack this past February. In case you've been living under a rock, the two singers got into some type of altercation where Brown proceeded to talk with his fists instead of you know, agreeing to disagree. Based on the police report filed we now know that Brown is adept at driving a car with one hand while using the other to punch, bite and choke a woman. I'd say it wasn't his first time doing it then.

I wrote a post after it was reported the two had reunited here where I was critical of the idea that Rihanna would return to the arms of her (alleged) attacker and how certainly more abuse would be coming. Some think it's blaming but I look at it from a strictly non-emotional place: if a building is on fire you don't walk back into it once you've gotten out. The average woman who's in an abusive relationship needs several attempts before she successfully disengages herself - if she ever does. Often it is when the woman finally decided she's had enough that the man she was with decides to kill her. 

I don't want to split hairs with this scenario but I would like to acknowledge there are distinctions between dating violence, domestic violence, rape, molestation, emotional abuse, physical abuse, etc but that it all starts out in one or two seemingly harmless scenarios. The men do things to test the women they decide to abuse long before it actually starts. Be it an insult passed off as a joke, approaching a woman on the street, luring a child with a puppy or online contact there's a pattern of learned and practiced behavior on the part of the perp who's looking for a victim. It's cold, it's calculated and it's usually successful.

Now as far as Rihanna is concerned I hope Chris Brown goes to prison. Anyone who hires Mark Gerragos is guilty of something as far as I'm concerned. Any attorney that would (unsuccessfully) defend a man who decapitates his pregnant wife (Scott Peterson) is someone who enjoys a certain amount of celebrity. I'm not always the most pragmatic I realize, but I wouldn't trust them. I also don't know the inner company machinations going on right now as the two are signed to the same record label and were (allegedly) paired together by them in the first place to draw attention away from their other relationships. They certainly seemed like media darlings at the time. 

Despite all the protestations to the contrary it will be good for people to actually watch someone be forced to take responsibility for their crimes. It's just too bad that some other men - R Kelly comes to mind - had their crimes supported by people who should really know better. After all isn't this what some want over the Mehserle/Grant shooting? You can't cry out for "justice" in one scenario while ignoring the wrong-doing of another. Race and gender can't be ignored nor can the protection of any Black man no matter what his crime go on unchecked.

Update: Why do I ask these "silly" questions? Of course not! Chris Brown accepted a plea deal and will get 5 years probation. He also has highway cleanup duty for 180 days. Rihanna did not testify. I'd love to have been a fly on the wall in that room as you know some wheels were greased in the case. I'm also certain he won't look as cute as Naomi Campbell does in orange. Somehow I'm still thinking one of the messages we're being sent is that because some white people like pets a Black man got several years in prison for abusing dogs, while another just gets....the chance to abuse another woman. #Priority Fail.   

About this Chris Brown/Rihanna "Reunion" - BIG FAIL!

This is not a time to be playing Donnie Hathaway/Roberta Flack's song "Back Together Again".

You know I was going to write a long-winded but poignant post about domestic violence, how the lives of Black women and girls are in constant peril and about how (some) Black people will make all kinds of excuses for the misdeeds of a Black man because only he is the "oppressed" one whereas Black women are supposed to be invincible to any attack and are always capable of being fully responsible, but I think anyone who reads my blog already knows how I feel about these types of situations. 

This is a preview of what her corpse will look like if she continues to make poor choices about the men she allows into her life and what is and isn't acceptable behavior from them. I'm using the big photo so people can be reminded of the ugly truth.

Instead I'm just going to say this: all the excusers and deniers need to know what it feels like to get the crap beaten out of you by a guy who claims to "love" you, all the wanna be tough guys/punks need to spend time in a real jail or prison with a few hardened criminals for a reality check and I don't have any sympathy for Rihanna the next time she gets a beat down. Yes, it WILL HAPPEN AGAIN but this time it'll stay behind closed doors.

You know as much as I find the toxic tone of Perez Hilton's blog distasteful at times, he really stood up for her and had the appropriate public outrage Black people SHOULD HAVE HAD over this instead of all the hemming and hawing that was on display. This is why the "collective" is in a free-fall and it's everybody for themselves. You might be trying to do your very best but five idiots down the street are ready to knock you and yours off over a few trinkets or some perceived slight. Or just because they're evil. Some of them may be miscreants but often they're the educated fools working in concert with others to step over you for pennies on the dollar.

Unless Chris Brown gets therapy, admits he's at fault AND faces all legal consequences he isn't remorseful and no amount of "counsel by his pastor" will change that. Rihanna should have never gone back to him and I am angry at any supposed friend or relative in her life that encouraged her to do so. They do NOT have her best interests at heart. Frankly right now she doesn't have her best interests at heart. This isn't cute and it certainly isn't a joke. This is how women end up DEAD. It sends a bad message to all of the females that admired her for her spunkiness. Oh well, this is yet ANOTHER REASON why we should NEVER make a role model out of a celebrity. 

Oh Those Darn Teens!

I'm on a quick break between sessions at UGCX and between falling asleep on the train to San Jose this morning (did I mention I'm a total night owl) I was thinking there must be something in the water or Hollywood(weird) is striking at the hearts and minds of kids that should know better. Perhaps they would if they actually had real, solid, common sense and guidance from the adults who are in their lives.  

I was also thinking how the economy will likely bottom out this summer since the topic of funding being gone by July was mentioned during the Venture Capital Roundtable held after-hours at UGCX last night. I haven't watched the Obama press conference yet because I knew it would make my blood boil. One, he's going to be blamed for not waving a magic wand and fixing things. Two, he wanted the job so - oh well! Factions be damned. Three, are we all really prepared for the Devil's Thrill? It's an amusement park ride where the floor drops and you're pinned to wall that spins around. That's okay for 1-2 minutes, but do you want your life to be like that? How many people are seriously willing to admit that aside from corporate greed and the opportunistic politicians that have been paid in full, they've also contributed to this scenario by hook or by crook? Well....not everyone..but you know what I mean. 

Students from Jonesboro High School Dance Team: Those poor girls thought doing a modified lap dance was providing a good, "clean", All-American entertaining half time show. Yeah it would have had it been the SuperBowl - ah the double standards! They thought they'd be rewarded for emulating some of their favorite recording artists. Hey with so many music videos being soft-porn worthy and Ambercrombie & Fitch selling thongs for tweens I could imagine a teenage girl wandering in the wilderness of proper decorum. Unfortunately because they're Black girls they must have loose morals, be wanton and have been labeled sluts. Kinda how many grown people said the 13 year-old in the R Kelly sex tape "knew what she was doing", it must boggle the minds of some people that girls can be actual girls and not have a complete understanding of sexuality and male/female relationships. 

Miley Cyrus: She's apologized for being filmed making "Asian" eyes. Really she just exemplifies whatever it is that's she been taught by her family. It's just good humored fun times for all. Like Lindsay Lohan referring to PBO as "coloured" because it's clearly what she'd heard relatives call Blacks. I'm sure the parents are well-meaning. I mean they're not wearing white sheets - unlike PETA's latest campaign. Her parents have no problem with her dating a guy who's almost 21 (she's 16) and hanging out with people drinking alcohol either. She's already apologized for taking photos of herself in her underwear, too. You know if all the money went away or some bigger scandal emerged ala Britney Spears they'd all still have each other. I see clear skies and no emotional melt downs. The parents aren't cashing in on their kid - not at all.  

Chris Brown & Rihanna: Ok we don't know all the details about what occurred between them, but if you grew up in the sphere of domestic violence and think you can simply walk away from it as an adult without any reflection (and therapy) you are delusional. What I've found interesting aside from the typical excusers and deniers trying to blame the female is the speculation this might hurt his career. Seeing how the Black community made heroes out of Genarlow Wilson and R. Kelly I don't think so. I wonder if the situation was reversed where a woman physically assaulted a man if the man would get any sympathy or be referred to as a weakling AND would she be prosecuted?
