Yeah! The Queen...oh wait watch out for Aretha...is recording her first hip-hop album in a decade. Titled, "The Persona" it's expected to be released mid-summer. I'm hoping she sticks with her theme of empowerment and respect for women, but you never know how an artist will represent themselves, record label politics and a sometimes fickle public will respond.
I admit back in the day when there were plenty of female MCs I didn't much of it because it seemed...you know...NORMAL. Now that they've been shut out in favor of a whole lot of foolishness and the overuse of Autotune I'm really looking forward to this release. I hope the continued demise of the record industry will finally force the male executives running these labels to rethink their efforts at thwarting creativity, positivity and substance. Otherwise they can continue to whine about download theft and further alienate what few supporters are left by sending the RIAA after teens and college students.
