They played a wide variety of musical styles. This is what happens when you write posts after 2am! But as I said, it's not a definite list. I'm hoping other people will comment and add their own lists of artists to look out for. Still waiting for that flip-flop group photo!!Faith at Acts of Faith Bloghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02150553143062604249noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6689654975245458947.post-41645226899610026122009-05-12T10:09:00.000-07:002009-05-12T10:09:00.000-07:00Claudia: Thanks for stopping by. I am going t...Thanks for bigging these artists up.

I am going to do lecture in June and I will talk about this.

It bothers me that for some reason, we allow SOMEONE else to dictate to us what is music and what isn't. I used to DJ weddings and I would play someone like Janelle Monae, Kristina, or the like and folks get open. I have used cats like Kravitz and Martin Luther to blend into other songs (big up to Afrika Bambaata and Kool Herc for the ideas and influences).

Its funny because Bambaata and Herc StILL do this (please go to a jam they are playing ). I don't konw what happened from that point on.

but until we start to really, really value our music, we will always leave folks like Kravitz, Monae, Tracy Chapman, and others in the dust. I think that is a tragedy.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13205384167481897308noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6689654975245458947.post-64785612369762650922009-05-12T07:14:00.000-07:002009-05-12T07:14:00.000-07:00Wow, I had never heard of Natalie before and it's ...Wow, I had never heard of Natalie before and it's so fascinating to see/hear her spin on Korean pop songs (of all things!) - very unique, it's so nice to see black artists doing something different and innovative.Claudiahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16067322036695571575noreply@blogger.com
