His moves were his attempt at dancing and performing like Jackie Wilson. Jackie Wilson was on the site of some of Elvis' movie sets. After Jackie Wilson's unfortunate fall on stage and lingering vegetative state, Elvis visited Jackie frequently.

This information is not well known and probably never will be. We give so much of our valuable selves away. We are misused for our talent, skill, and giftedness and then tossed aside leaving the scraps for our own communities.Hagar's Daughterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05329175102157599795noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6689654975245458947.post-2800342774954713392009-05-04T19:36:00.000-07:002009-05-04T19:36:00.000-07:00Faith,

And I like the Police, but as you said that's not the point.

Then there was the mass crossover era when I was in college when Lionel Ritchie started imitating Barry Manilow to gain a White, so-called "mainstream" audience. I also remember the Black artists like Peabo Bryson who tried to crossover to a White audience and failed. Which meant no "mainstream" success AND the turning off of his previous Black audience. Which meant no more career. Oh well.

A really good (old from 1988---gee, I feel dated---LOL!) book about this madness is The Death of Rhythm & Blues by Nelson George.

Peace, blessings and solidarity.Khadijahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07732325133964607276noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6689654975245458947.post-35507657576154207392009-05-04T18:31:00.000-07:002009-05-04T18:31:00.000-07:00Another great post with excellent insight. "Race" ...Another great post with excellent insight. "Race" music - the more things change, the more they remain the same.

There are some artists such as, The Rolling Stones, Rod Stewart, who have always credited the influence and style of Black artists. They have acknowledged how much they have benefited from Black artists. Whether their recording companies did is another story.

There are so many non-blacks who want to emulate American Blacks, but will refuse to sit next to one of us.

For the life of me I still don't understand why black folks get so excited about a "black sounding" singer / rapper.

Where are the black soul singers anyway?Hagar's Daughterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05329175102157599795noreply@blogger.com
